Why does page load time matter?

Beyond offering a better user experience, improving page load times has numerous benefits, both from a marketing perspective with the additional traffic it generates, and from a business standpoint as it increases revenue per visitor, as well as technically since it reduces bandwidth consumption.

Mozilla published a detailed study on improving their conversion rate. Using a test sample of their users, the Mozilla teams demonstrated that by reducing the loading time of the Firefox download landing page by 2.2 seconds, they measured a 15.4% increase in their browser download rate.
